Targeting:

Mackay's giant trevally (geets, gee tees, GT) are thugs. They love isolated rocks, big bombies, blue holes, and reef edges. Giant trevally love white water, pressure points, and bait! Focus your attention on the pressure points of prominent structure and keep your eyes peeled for schools of fusiliers - GT love fusies.

If it's flat, you can't beat big poppers, but if there’s a bit of chop give stickbaits, especially slow sinking ones, a go.  Last resort - if you've missed a few strikes and sent them deep or can't get them to the surface in the first place, try dropping down some big plastics and ripping them off the bottom. They need to be big – think 20cm and over.

Please note, our GTs are too good to only catch once – release them when you can and handle with care.

For inshore anglers, smaller trevally and queenfish regularly patrol the mouths of creeks in the Net Free Zone. Look for bait being pestered and try long casts with surface lures, chrome slices or jerkshads. Trolling the drop-offs with small (10-12cm) high speed lures can also produce the goods.
