Mackay Fishing clubs and groups

Mackay has a few passionate groups of anglers that get together for friendly tournaments and to share knowledge and ideas. If you’re new to the area or want to connect with like-minded anglers then be sure to check them out.

The Mackay Game Fishing Club has a long history of running the Spanish Mackerel Shootout, usually in July. This competition is open to all and as the name suggests focuses on Spanish mackerel. The club is active throughout the year and focuses on a whole mix of pelagic species, including marlin, which turn up offshore during the dry season late in the year.

If impoundment fishing is more your style, the Mackay Tournament Anglers are an active group that organise friendly competitions on the dams. These anglers are very happy to share knowledge and are a wealth of information to those new to the area. They are best contacted via Facebook.

There are several other smaller clubs in the region focusing on everything from shore-based fishing to light line angling.  They can be found through the Queensland Amateur Fishing Clubs Association Inc website.
